Biographical

I am a full time mediator/arbitrator.  My career as a neutral began in 1991 with my attendance at the Attorney-Mediators Institute in Dallas.  In 2004 I opened the St. Louis Mediation & Arbitration Center.  I am locally recognized as a "go to" person for help with the resolution of business disputes including the areas of employment, civil rights, real estate, contracts, trademark, wage and hour, consumer, insurance and statutory claims of all kinds.  I do not handle Family Law matters.  I My aim is to help the parties find their own solution to the issues at hand.  My experience of thousands of mediations alllows me to work with all types of personalities and issues to reach a consensus settlement.  I remind parties that it is their job to settle their dispute and that it is my job to bring them alternatives that can lead to resolution.

My legal career began in Houston in 1972 where I practiced with a number of small firms and on my own until 2003 when I moved to St. Louis.  My law practice, much like my ADR practice was business oriented, representing banks, telecommunications companies, insurance companies, real estate buyers and sellers, employers and employees in a variety of matters, alleged trademark infringers, and construction companies.  I represented all types of businesses: wholesale, retail, manufacturing, servicing, Fortune 500 and Mom and Pop shops in both transactional and litigation matters.  I represented clients in the Justice of the Peace Courts and the Texas Supreme Court.  I handled matters in the United States District Courts through the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals of the United States.  I handled the negotiation of real estate contracts for nationally franchised drive through restaurants as well as municipal bond issues for the construction of hotels.   Though I am not currently engaged in the practice of law, I remain licensed to practice in Texas, Missouri, and several federal courts including the United States Supreme Court.

I attend at least 15 hours of advanced ADR training per year.  I am a regular speaker and presenter to lawyers on the subject of ADR.

Education

I received a bachelors degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1969 and my law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1972.
